Where we live shapes our consciousness and is fundamental to our wellbeing. We are fed and nurtured by place. When this sense of place, is torn from us, when our landscape is altered beyond all recognition by disaster or conflict, then our lives are irrevocably altered.

Displacement is an ongoing series of relief prints that uses images found in the media describing the affect of world events on the places people call home. The images hover between figuration and abstraction, with familiar structures of house, street and neighbourhood swept away by circumstance. The process of translating the image on to lino or wood, further simplifies the fundamental qualities of the image. The title of the piece reflects both the consequences of these events and the transformative nature of the production process.
